Grok Bot vs ChatGPT Dots vs Claude Duet: Which Always-On AI Assistant Fits Your Small Business?
Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet all promise AI that works in the background. Here is where each one is strongest, who it suits and small business use cases.

Three AI assistants launched within a few months of each other, and they all make a similar promise. Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet each run in the background on a computer of their own, work across the apps you connect and come back to you when something needs a decision.
For a founder or ops lead, that raises a practical question rather than a technical one. Which one fits the way your business already works? The answer depends less on which model is smartest this month and more on where your team spends its day, which subscriptions you already pay for and how much hands-on work you want the assistant to do.
This comparison uses only what each vendor has published about its own product. It covers where each assistant is strongest, who it suits, how each handles approvals and which small business jobs suit each one.
What are Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet?
All three are always-on AI assistants: they keep working when you close your laptop, rather than waiting for you to type a prompt.
Grok Bot was introduced on x.ai on 11 August 2026 as "your team of always-on agents". You create named Bots, give each one a job and message them like colleagues. According to the Grok Bot documentation, each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, filesystem and terminal, and all of your Bots share that one computer.
ChatGPT dots were introduced by OpenAI on 29 September 2026. OpenAI describes them as always-on agents with their own cloud computer that learn from feedback and work towards your goals in the background. You start with one primary dot and can reach it in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams.
Claude Duet is Anthropic's newest of the three, opened as a research preview on 23 October 2026. Anthropic built it as a proactive agent for professionals and small business owners. It sends a morning brief on your connected apps, checks them every few hours and has a virtual machine with its own browser for background tasks.
Grok Bot vs ChatGPT dots vs Claude Duet: how do they differ?
The products overlap, but each leans in a different direction.
- Grok Bot leans towards a team of specialists. The launch post describes running several Bots in parallel, with one coordinating the others, and Bots messaging each other in group chats. It also stresses working inside tools that have no clean API, by signing in and using the website as a person would.
- Dots lean towards one assistant that lives where you already talk. OpenAI's emphasis is a primary dot that carries context across ChatGPT, Slack and Teams, with a preview of "specialist dots" for organisations.
- Claude Duet leans towards a calm daily rhythm. Anthropic's emphasis is judgement about what needs you: a morning brief, periodic checks and a message only when something matters.
A second difference is how each one learns your routine. Grok Bot can watch you complete a browser workflow once, save it as a skill and run it on a schedule, as set out in its skills and routines guide. Dots learn your preferences as you work together. Claude Duet carries over the memory, skills and connected apps from your existing Claude account.
Which is best for small business?
There is no single winner, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. Each is early, and each vendor says its product can make mistakes.
The better question is which one matches your current setup. If your team already lives in Slack or Teams and pays for ChatGPT, dots will feel the most familiar. If you want a single assistant that brings the day's priorities to you and waits for a nod before acting, Claude Duet is designed for exactly that. If you want to hand off whole jobs to several assistants, including work in web tools without good integrations, Grok Bot is built around that model.
Who can use each one today?
Availability differs a lot, and it is changing quickly. This is what each vendor says at the time of writing.
- Grok Bot: the documentation says it is included with every paid individual Cursor plan and the Cursor Teams plan, and that you can also link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus or SuperGrok Heavy subscription or use a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan. A Grok Bot for Enterprise announcement on 3 September says it is now available for enterprises. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.
- ChatGPT dots: rolling out to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. Enterprise users, including Edu and Healthcare, can try the beta once their workspace admin enables it.
- Claude Duet: a research preview by waitlist, starting with Pro and Max subscribers in the US, on iOS, Android and claude.ai.
Check each vendor's page before you decide, because plans and regions will keep shifting.
How does each assistant handle approvals and safety?
All three keep consequential actions behind your approval by default. The detail is where they differ.
Grok Bot uses a model-based Auto Review that checks tool calls and computer actions before they run. Its approvals, security and privacy guide lets you add "Ask first" and "Allow automatically" rules, with Ask first winning when both match. For passwords, two-factor codes and payment confirmations, the Bot hands control of the computer to you. One point to plan around: all of your Bots share one computer, so the documentation says not to treat separate Bots as a security boundary.
ChatGPT dots start with built-in rules for when to act and when to ask. OpenAI's dots privacy and safety FAQ describes Custom Rules that let you allow, require approval for or block specific actions. The most sensitive steps, such as changing a password or transferring money, need you to take over. Background "proactive research" is limited to read-only tools.
Claude Duet reads, drafts and prepares work on its own. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you what it plans to do and waits. Anthropic says some actions, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts, are off-limits even with your approval.
If you want to think through who in your team should own an assistant like this, we covered that in who owns the work when an agent is a colleague.

Which should you pick? A simple if/then guide
Use this as a starting point, not a verdict.
- If your team already runs on ChatGPT and talks in Slack or Teams, then start with dots. The assistant meets people where they already work.
- If you are the owner and your main problem is keeping track of everything, then look at Claude Duet. The morning brief and approval-first design suit one busy decision-maker.
- If you want to hand off several distinct jobs at once, or much of your work happens in web tools with no good integration, then look at Grok Bot. Parallel Bots and teach-by-demonstration routines suit that pattern.
- If you are not yet on any of the qualifying plans, then choose the vendor whose plan you would use anyway. Paying for a new subscription just to try an assistant rarely makes sense.
- If none of your processes are written down yet, then wait. Any of these will repeat a messy process faithfully.
What small business use cases suit always-on assistants?
The vendors' own examples point to the same kind of work: repeated, multi-step and annoying rather than high-stakes.
- Inbox and follow-up. Surfacing missed messages and drafting replies for you to approve.
- Invoices and admin. Spotting unpaid invoices and drafting reminders, or processing invoices that arrive by email.
- Meeting prep. Pulling together a short brief before a client call from your calendar and CRM.
- Pipeline work. Researching accounts and leaving outreach drafts for review.
- Reporting. Running the same weekly report on a schedule and flagging anything unusual.
Notice what is missing from that list: anything where a wrong action is hard to undo. That is not an accident. For a wider look at agent platforms beyond these three, see our guide to the top AI agents for business.
The best assistant is the one your process is ready for
Grok Bot, ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet are all serious attempts at the same idea, and none is a clear winner for every business. Dots fit teams already living in ChatGPT and chat tools. Claude Duet fits owners who want a calm daily brief and approval before action. Grok Bot fits teams handing off several jobs at once, including in tools without good integrations.
The bigger factor is your own setup. A clear process, tidy data and a short list of what the assistant may and may not do will matter more than which logo is on the app. Pick one, start with low-risk work and widen access as you build trust.
